Abstract:

The intestinal microbiome is dynamically associated with host health. The fecal microbiota transplantation ( FMT) approach involves transplanting the entire intestinal microflora of a healthy donor into the gastrointestinal tract of a patient to rebuild and restore the natural intestinal microflora. Mounting evidence has shown that FMT can help fight Clostridium difficile infection, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and other intestinal diseases.Research progress on FMT and its potential applications in animal husbandry are reviewed in this paper. We also discuss the key limiting factors for FMT in pig husbandry.
