Cervical cancer (CC) exhibits a relatively young age of onset and represents a severe danger to women’s life and health; however, there is currently a lack of effective therapeutic regimens for this disease. The development of clinical diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for CC require the screening of animal models that conform to the clinical syndrome characteristics of CC. Existing animal models of CC mainly include spontaneous, induced, transplanted, and genetically engineered CC. The analysis of each of these models based on the clinical syndrome characteristics of CC in traditional Chinese and Western medicine ( TCM-WM) showed that transplanted transplantation method had a Western medicine clinical consistency of 70% and was the most commonly used, while the orthotopic cervical transplantation method had a TCM clinical consistency of 68. 5%. Spontaneous and induced models were less frequently used because of low modeling-success rates, significant inter-model differences, and poor consistency. Overall, the TCM consistency of all models was relatively low, which is not conducive to the development of integrated TCM-WM diagnosis and treatment approaches for CC. Therefore, applying TCM pathogenic factors and establishing TCM model-evaluation criteria are required to improve the development of CC models and promote clinical disease research.
