    Abstract:

The etiology of obesity involves many genetic factors, but fundamentally result from an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure in both humans and animals. Obesity is a common risk factor for many diseases, including diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke. The study of animal models of obesity contributes substantial evidence that enables the translation of laboratory findings to clinical practice.
