Suture occuluded method for model of focal celebral ischemia in rats was reviewed according to the literature over 10 years. It is regarded as more ideal method at present and can be used in the basic and clinical study of cerebral and vascular diseases. The further study should be placed on controlling factors affecting the model duplication to make it more standardized, and to benefit the further discussion of pathological and physiological mechanisms in cerebral ischemia and the evaluation of the precise protective effect of traditional Chinese medicine on brain.
