Abstract:This paper explores the effect of Hainan Medical University's systematic education on experimental animal welfare and ethics for medical students through various forms in practical teaching, so as to lay a solid foundation for cultivating high-quality medical talents. By comparing the survey data before (n=289) and after (n=296) classes, it is found that the proportion of students who are "very concerned" about the ethical issues of experimental animals has increased significantly from 6.2% to 34.8%(P<0.001), and the proportion of students who are "very familiar" with animal welfare has increased from 1.7% to 62.8% (P < 0.001). In the recognition of curriculum necessity, the proportion of "very important" increased from 76.1% to 91.2% (P < 0.001); In the aspect of animal experiment attitude, the proportion of advocating "giving priority to analog substitution" has greatly increased from 15.9% to 63.9% (P < 0.001). The comparison of professional stratification further shows that the recognition of "experimental animals as an important way of learning" among students majoring in core medicine has improved more significantly (with an increase of 28.7%vs18.5%), while the attitude of students majoring in related fields has changed more obviously (with an increase of 41.2%vs32.1%). It shows that this form of animal ethics education has significantly improved medical students' attitude towards experimental animal ethics cognition, but there is room for improvement in teaching research, such as the need to optimize the course content, the limited radiation population, and the effective combination with modern educational technology.
