Research on animals has laid the foundation for breakthroughs in a range of scientific fields. Indeed, research on animals has played a central role in science throughout the 20th century. But its ethical considerations have attracted increasing attention in recent years .The clinical value and ethical propriety of animal research have come under challenge and attack. This paper discusses some of the ethical issues raised by animal research, and several proposals for problem solving.
