Abstract:We introduced nu gene, from PBI/1 nude mouse, to 615/PBI beige mouse with NK cell deficient, and bred T and NK cell combined immunodeficient PBI/2 beige nude mouse. It is proved that this mouse is of T and NK , cell combined immunodeficiency. It has been successfully used in the experimental researches on tumor heterogenity, metastatic factors, genetic mechanism human tumor xenograft model which is difficult to establish in a single T cell deficient nude mouse and so on.

Abstract:By using 7 inbred strains and 2 outbred NIH colonies of mice, the potency testing of Hepatitis B vaccine was performed. Significant differences were found between potency estimates derived from assays using different strains of mice. And it was likely that the variation of immune response to HB vaccine in mice was correlative with the H-2 haplotypes. Based on our experiments, a breeding selection has been made from the NIH colony for eliminating both non-q haplotype-bearing individuals and other poor res-ponders to HB vaccine. This new established colony is hopeful to become a standard stock for potency testing of HB vaccine in China.

Abstract:Introduced from Guang xi and Guei Zhou Provinces, in the south of China, a population of Chinese Miniature Pig ( commonly called Fragrant Pigs ) , with a clear genetic background, stable productive performance and uniform growth and development for experiment was developed as a result of full mating, mass and closed breeding. The growth and development pattern, anatomic and histological structures, normal physiological and biochemical indices, feeding and management control and eradication of disease and application in comparative medicine have been extensively studied. The results showed that Chinese Miniature Pigs have the unique characteristics of snall size, stabls genetic performance, high prolificacy, strong adaptability. Some anatomic and histological structures, and normal physiological and biochemical indices of the miniature pig resembled those of human beings. Atherosclerosis was produced pathologically by feeding hyperlipoid ration. The pathological changes of atherosclerosis were similar to those of human beings. The responses of experimental model to prevention with drug were significant. The miniature pigs were used for the study of stomatology. Not only were the changes of dental pulp covered by hydroxy calcium phosphate-iodoform similar to those of humans but also of artificial decayed teeth of the minipigs similar to natural and artificial decayed teeth of humans. Preliminary studies of skin grafting and anaesthesia were also made in the minipigs. It was considered that the minipigs could be used in the studies of biology, comparative medicine and veterinary medicine.

Abstract:The SAIDS model was established by intravenous iroculation with SRV -1 liquid cilture in eight jaivenile Rhesus monkeys. According to the liter-at are and clinical symptoms and signs, virological, pathological and im-munological changes of SADS, there are three types oi SAIDS in experiment: fatal, persistent and recovery. Besides those we proposed the fourth infected type based on the low titer of neutralized antibody and persistent viremia. Five types of lymph node changes in SAIDS, which may be considered to be histopathological prognosis of SAIDS. The SAIDS model would be a good subject for human AIDS and SAIDS research.

Abstract:Germfree rabbits and guinea pigs were delivered by hysterotomy in New Zealand pregnant rabbits and short-haired albino guinea pigs, the entire uterus was removed into the isolator before the foetuses were dissected. During the early weeks of the life artificial milk was fed and followed by solid diets. All the materials and diets were sterilizated thoroughly for the maintenance of germfree condition. Based on the successful raising of the germfree animals, investigations on the biological characteristics and applications have been done. It has been found that the procedures in hand-feeding and germ free maintenance were successful. Germfree animals grow in good condition with the significant characteristics which was seen in the most other germfree animals, i.e. enlarged cecum, undeveloped immune system, etc. By using defined germfree animal models more researches can be done, such as studies on the relationships between macro-orgnisms and microorgnisms, relationships between micro-orgnisms. the producing of antibodies and the establishments of SPF and cleaning laboratory animal stocks.

Abstract:This paper presents the results of study on genetic variants of 4 KM subcolonies maintained in Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun and compares it with that of one NIH colony introduced from U.S.A. by methods of eletro-phoresis and mandible analysis, The results revealed that: (1) There are significant differences between KM and Swiss derivative colony NIH on alle-lic constitutions of Es-3, Es-10, Glo-1, Gpt-l, Got-2, and Mpi-1 loci and mandible shape. Genetic distance between NIH and KM subcolonies is 0.131, 0.011, which is a proof that KM mice is non-Swiss derivative subspecies. (2) The allelic constitutions of KM subcolonies is same and genetic distance is 0.008, 0.027 positively related with the time of colony closed. (3 ) The unique position of S:KM mouse was shown in phylogenetic diagram of 4 KM subcolonies from both biochemical and morphological data, which prompts that some variants existed in KM subcolonies may influence the repro-ductivity of experiment.

Abstract:A couple of hamsters of wild stock of heterozygotes was discovered in the laboratory from April to June 1984 giving birth to two litters of offsprings 6 of them were albino. After deliberate breeding for more than 3.5 years, we established foundation colony of the albino hamster. An albino stock was developed by means of intercrossing of the heterozygotes hamsters with albinotic individuals and of backcrossing between filial generation and their parents. In order to expand the number of colony, hamsters were bred in such a way that they were mated under experimental conditions and pairs of females and males were allowed to cohabit for a definite period of time, During acclimatization and breeding, we observed oestrous cycle, pattern of copulation, determination of pregnancy, reproductive performance, growth and development of the young animals.

Abstract:The paper deals with the susceptibility of several species of small freshwater fish to toxicants, The results indicate that small freshwater fish is highly susceptible to metal and organic phosphorus pesticide and that small freshwater fish can be used as experimental animal for toxicity test. Clear symptoms such as tumefied kidney and crooked body can be observed by exposing gold fish (Carassius auratus ) to cadmium toxicity, therfore it is possible to use gold fish as an experimental animal for the study of environmental toxicology and oncoiogy.

Abstract:An experimental model of hepatitis E was established in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta). First-passage animals were inoculated with two different stool suspensions obtained from human patients with hepatitis E which originated from Xinjiang and Senyan, respectively. Three of four monkeys were infected,27~34 nm diameter virus-like particles were found in feces of infected animals by immune electron microscopy(IEM). Liver biopsy of the three monkeys showed histopathologic changes of acute-phase hepatitis E. Second-passage animals were inoculated with HEV in both stool and liver suspension from a first-passage monkey ( M-16), including one animal inoculated with liver suspension. Four of five animals were infected. The third-passage animal was infected with the secondpassage monkey both stool suspension and bile. Five of seven animals were infected.
