Objective To assess the preventive and therapeutic effects of Taohe chengqidecoction in the rats model with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) induced by TAA．Methods HE model in rats was established by TAA intraperitoneal injection，and the effects of Taohe chengqidecoction were obsreved on Neural behavior change，neurology test，blood ammonia，serum biochemical indexes，liver and brain pathological changes．Results HE model in rats was established successfully in this experiment，low，medium and high dose of Taohe chengqidecoction markedly improved neuro-reflexes and liver and brain pathologicaldamages，then significantly decreased the staging of HE and serum biochemical indexes，and the results of high dose group was the best，which was similar to that of positive group．Conclusion Taohe chengqidecoction exhibit promising preventive and therapeutic effects on HE in rat model produced by TAA，and these results can provide substantial experimetal evidence for its clinical application．
