“Focusing on the Frontiers of Infectious Diseases and Exploring New Paths for Prevention and Control” was grandly held in Beijing
On August 28, 2025, the symposium themed "Focusing on the Frontiers of Infectious Diseases and Exploring New Paths for Prevention and Control" was grandly held in Beijing. It was co-hosted by the editorial departments of Acta Laboratorium Animalis Scientia Sinica, Chinese Journal of Comparative Medicine, and Animal Models and Experimental Medicine (English edition). The symposium brought together top experts in the field of infectious disease research in China to jointly discuss the future direction and technological breakthroughs in infectious disease prevention and control.

The experts attending the symposium mainly included Professor Qin Chuan from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Animals, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Researcher Qin Chengfeng from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Academy of Military Sciences; Researcher Liu Wanli from the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University; Professor Huang Yaowei from Zhejiang University/South China Agricultural University; Professor Zhao Yaofeng from the College of Biological Sciences, China Agricultural University; Researcher Shen Yongyi from the School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and Researcher Bao Linlin from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Animals, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

The global pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 has made us deeply aware of the huge threat posed by emerging infectious diseases to global public health. Against this background, this symposium aimed to build a high-level academic exchange platform to promote the innovative development of infectious disease prevention and control research, with a particular focus on in-depth discussions on key fields such as animal model construction. A number of experts and scholars from the scientific research field shared cutting-edge research results and practical suggestions around key topics such as infectious disease prevention and control, vaccine research and development, and animal model construction, providing important ideas for promoting technological innovation and the application of achievements in related fields.
The symposium emphasized that the work of infectious disease prevention and control cannot be separated from the support of high-quality animal models, and the construction of multi-angle and three-dimensional disease models is of great significance. At the same time, it clearly pointed out that in the future, we should further strengthen the standardization construction of infectious disease animal models and the improvement of resource banks, actively promote interdisciplinary cooperation, integrate technical forces from multiple parties, and make sufficient technical preparations for effectively responding to the next public health pandemic.
Facing the possible “Disease X” in the future, only by strengthening scientific research collaboration, consolidating technical reserves, and improving the model system can we build a more resilient public health defense line. Let us work together to contribute Chinese wisdom to global infectious disease prevention and control!
